Kazakhstan will be able to receive gas from Russia in case of a shortage, Astana said.

In the event of a shortage on the domestic market, Kazakhstan will be able to receive gas from the Russian Gazprom,  the Minister of Energy of the Republic Almasadam Satkaliev said.

“We have a preliminary agreement that in the event of a gas shortage on the domestic market, we will be able to receive gas from Gazprom,” the minister said at a briefing.

According to him, there is no talk of such supplies yet; everything “depends on the forecast balance.”

“That is, we are currently exporting Kazakh gas. In the event of a sharp increase in consumption on the domestic market and until we commission gas processing capacities, we assume that at some point we will take gas from our Russian colleagues,” the head of the Ministry of Energy explained.

He also said that Kazakhstan will export gas to China according to a previously agreed plan – about 4.5-5 billion cubic meters per year.
