At least 24 people were detained during spontaneous protests on Wednesday night in France after police shot and killed a 17-year-old boy who resisted arrest, radio station France Bleu reported.

The riots that began on Tuesday evening in Nanterre, the western suburb of Paris, continued into the night.

According to police, as of 7 am, at least 24 people were detained.

Clashes with police also broke out at the Place Voltaire in Paris, where protesters began to pelt police with fireworks and firecrackers.


Spontaneous protests were also held in other French cities. Thus, the protesters managed to set fire to the city hall of Mantes in the Yvelines department, users on social networks published videos of arsons and clashes with policemen in Marseille, Bordeaux, Roubaix in northern France and Colmar in the east of the country.


Riots took place in the communes of Gagny and Clichy-sous-Bois in the department of Saint-Saint-Denis, in the Parisian suburbs of Boulogne-Billancourt and Onet-sous-Bois.


On Tuesday morning, police officers shot and killed a 17-year-old boy during a road check in Nanterre, a suburb west of Paris, who police said refused to comply with their demands.
