Canada has suspended the provision of discounts on Tesla electric cars

The Canadian authorities have suspended the provision of compensatory discounts for the purchase of Tesla electric cars as part of a national program, CTV reported, citing a statement from the country’s Minister of Transport.

“Payments for Tesla cars under the Canadian discount program for electric vehicles have been frozen pending a government investigation into their validity,” the TV channel points out.

As noted by CTV, Canadian Minister of Transportation Chrystia Freeland said that the criteria for future incentive programs for zero-emission vehicles will be changed so that Tesla cars will not be subject to discounts until the United States waives duties on Canada.

It is noted that the decision to freeze discounts on Tesla in Canada was made earlier this month, but the authorities decided to talk about it publicly against the background of the upcoming parliamentary elections.
