US President Joe Biden said that all citizens of the country will be forced to pay if members of the Republican Party allow the federal government to shut down.

“Just a few months ago, after lengthy negotiations between me and the Speaker (of the US House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy), a level of government spending was agreed upon that would support the country’s domestic policy and national security priorities while at the same time reducing the deficit by $1 trillion within next decade. Now a small group of radical Republicans does not want to comply with the terms of the agreement, and everyone in America will be forced to pay for it,” Biden said at a speech to the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, broadcast on the White House Youtube channel.

The US President noted that the government shutdown will affect everything from food security to cancer research.

“It’s time for Republicans to do the job they were elected to do in America,” Biden added.

The inclusion of funds intended for Ukraine in the country’s defense budget causes sharp opposition from a number of members of the House of Representatives of Congress and becomes a stumbling block for its adoption. Thus, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene said earlier this week that she would vote against passing a short-term or full-fledged budget as long as it included appropriations for Ukraine. Congress, in order to avoid another shutdown, must adopt a full or short-term budget for the country before the end of the current fiscal year, which expires on October 1.
