Armenia plans to introduce voluntary military service for women in the army.

The Armenian authorities plan to introduce in the near future the voluntary military service of women in the armed forces, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in a message on the occasion of Army Day celebrated on January 28.

“In the near future, we plan to introduce a completely new institution in the Republic of Armenia – women’s voluntary military service,” the message says, the text of which is posted on the government’s website.


At the same time, Pashinyan expressed gratitude to the women serving, including combat under the contract.


The prime minister also informed that the process of replacing three-month military training camps with monthly or 25-day ones has been launched. In addition, he added that the authorities are working to equip the army with modern weapons and military equipment, and are trying to encourage local manufacturers as much as possible.
