UN World Meteorological Organization: Concentration of CO2 in atmosphere hits new high

the United Nations World Meteorological Organization said that the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere has reached the threshold 400 parts per million in 2015. The UN latest annual report ‘Greenhouse Gas Bulletin’ has published the figures.

On Monday, the UN announced the results of the study on the concentration of CO2 in the planet’s atmosphere. According to the UN World Meteorological Organization, the greenhouse gas has previously passed the 400 ppm threshold for several months in specific locations but never on an annual global basis.

‘Greenhouse Gas Bulletin’ by WMO reported on new records of CO2 concentration rate, its average level would stay above 400 ppm for centuries. Powerful El Nino had a great impact like a warming effect. The typhoon “triggered droughts in tropical regions and reduced the capacity of ‘sinks’ like forests, vegetation and the oceans to absorb CO2,” the UN meteorologists said.

The WMO’s annual report ‘Greenhouse Gas Bulletin’ measures and tracks concentrations of gases in the atmosphere, rather than emissions.
