The Czech Prime Minister urged Europe to continue helping Ukraine

The events of recent weeks and days confirm that the international situation is becoming more complicated, but Europe must continue to help Ukraine and take care of its own defense and security into its own hands, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala told reporters before flying to London for a meeting of leaders of several European countries.

“We have all seen the video footage from the meeting of the presidents (of the United States Donald) Trump and (Vladimir) Zelensky. Of course, no one is happy about how the situation developed there and what this meeting came to. It is clear that the international situation is very difficult. Nevertheless, President Zelensky and Ukraine still have our support. And everyone understands that Europe’s task now is to take care of its own defense and security, and most importantly, to take concrete steps in this direction,” the Czech Prime Minister said.

According to Fiala, the goal of Ukraine’s aspirations is to achieve a just peace, which then cannot be questioned or circumvented in any way. To do this, it is necessary to help Ukraine even more actively in the military sphere and strengthen its security for the future, Fiala said.

“European countries need to focus more on strengthening their own security, strengthening their economies and competitiveness, but above all on strengthening defense and security. We also need to raise our defense spending to at least 3% of GDP. The Czech Republic is striving for this goal, intending to achieve it within the next few years. And we are not alone in this quest in Europe,” Fiala stressed.
