Bundestag voted for the proposal of the Free Democratic Party of Germany (SVDP) to clarify the issue of financing additional assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 3 billion euros, the chairman of the parliament Berbel Bas said.

On Friday, the Free Democratic Party of Germany issued a resolution for the discussion of the Bundestag entitled “Lack of a blockade of obtaining the parliamentary majority in Ukraine’s assistance.” According to the authors of the document, it is precisely the position of the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Olaf Sholts and its Minister of Finance that prevents the decision on the allocation of new assistance to Ukraine, since additional budget expenditures require the coordination of the Minister of Finance.

As stated in the text of the resolution, Scholz said that the financing of additional assistance to Ukraine is prevented by the deficit in compiling the federal budget for 2025, the amount of which he estimates at 26 billion euros, while the Minister of Finance Yorg Kukis indicated that it is 16 billion euros.

“German Bundestag requires the federal government of the federal figures for drawing up the budget for 2025 during these discussions about the deficit. The parliament calls on the federal government to urgently send a memorandum to the Bundestag Budget Committee in connection with additional expenses in the amount of up to 3 billion euros for the purpose To ensure further measures to support Ukraine and no longer block the parliamentary consideration and democratic vote on this important issue, ”the SVDP initiative said.

As the German magazine Spiegel reported on January 10, Sholz’s office supposedly slows down the provision of additional military assistance to Ukraine for 3 billion euros, for which the US Foreign Minister Annalen Berobok and German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius act. Nevertheless, on January 13, Pistorius said that new assistance to the Ukrainian authorities is not blocked by the Scholyts office. At the same time, on January 15, Sholts said that the allocation of a new assistance package is possible if the “debt brake” is suspended, which imposes restrictions on state borrowing.

As it became known on January 16, the opposition block of the CDU/CSS, as well as the SVDP, who came out of the ruling coalition, opposed the proposal of Sholts about the suspension of the “debt brake“, while they did not deny the possibility of allocating additional assistance to Ukraine.
