Israel’s military-political cabinet approved an agreement with Hamas on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said.
⠀
“After considering all aspects: political, security and humanitarian, and based on the understanding that the proposed deal contributes to the achievement of war objectives, the commission of ministers on national security (military-political cabinet) recommended that the government approve the proposed plan,” the statement said.
⠀
The Israeli government will meet later on Friday to approve the agreement.
⠀
The parties to the conflict in the Gaza Strip – Israel and the Hamas movement – with the mediation of Qatar, Egypt and the United States, agreed on a ceasefire from January 19, the first stage of the truce will last 42 days.
⠀
The first stage of the transaction involves:
⠀
the release of 33 Israeli hostages in exchange for approximately a thousand Palestinian prisoners;
the withdrawal of Israeli troops to the borders of the Gaza Strip, although for now they will remain within their borders;
⠀
humanitarian aid supplies – up to 600 trucks per day, including 50 with fuel;
⠀
Palestinians will receive 200 thousand tents and 60 thousand mobile homes.
⠀
On the 16th day of the truce, Israel and Hamas pledged to begin negotiations on the second stage of the deal, which would presumably include the release of the remaining hostages, a permanent ceasefire and a complete withdrawal of Israeli troops.
