Donald Trump, who won the US presidential election, said that he intends “in the first hour” of his presidency to begin the process of pardoning most of the participants in the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Time magazine writes that one of Trump’s first official actions since the beginning of his presidency will be to pardon most of the accused or convicted participants in the storming of the Capitol in 2021.
⠀
“It will start in the first hour… Maybe in the first nine minutes,” Trump told Time magazine.

On January 6, 2021, a crowd of Trump supporters broke into the Capitol building, where Congress was scheduled to meet to certify the results of the 2020 presidential election. Five people were killed that day or shortly after, and another 140 police officers were injured. The assault was preceded by the fact that the former Republican president publicly refused to accept the election result and tried to challenge it in court. The politician, in particular, claimed that multiple violations were committed during the voting and demanded that the voting results be reviewed. Trump later condemned the storming of the Capitol.

In light of Trump’s victory in the last US presidential election, those accused of participating in the storming of the Capitol recently filed motions to delay their trial hearings until Trump officially takes office, citing his public promise to pardon some of those convicted in these cases.
