Rutte called on NATO defense ministers not to gossip about Trump.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has instructed defense ministers of the alliance countries to interact with the winner of the US presidential election, Donald Trump, and not to spread gossip about him, the Washington Post writes, citing a European official.

“Don’t gossip about Trump. Call him and get his support,” the publication quotes Rutte as saying to the heads of NATO defense ministries this week.

He also pointed to the need to ensure that the US remains on Europe’s side.

It is noted that the NATO Secretary General also called on ministers to increase defense spending beyond 2% of GDP.

“If… (the conflict in Ukraine) ends with Russia’s victory…, the costs of counteracting (Russian President Vladimir) Putin will not be 3% of GDP, but 4% or 5%,” he added.
