The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, Constantinos Kombos, called on the European Union to intensify dialogue and strengthen communication channels with the United States, including decisions regarding the situation in Ukraine. He stated this upon arrival at a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels.

“There are a number of important items on the agenda today: Ukraine, as well as the situation in the Middle East and the Horn of Africa. However, I would focus on the relationship between the US and the EU. The EU should approach it as a strategic partnership, in which should work to intensify dialogue and strengthen communication channels. Now is not the time to distance oneself, but the time to work together, and this is a necessity, not just an opportunity,” the head of the Cypriot Foreign Ministry said.

When journalists asked Kombos a question about his attitude to the information published in the American press about US President Joe Biden’s approval of strikes with American weapons deep into the Russian Federation from Ukrainian territory, he again pointed out the need to coordinate with Washington any decisions or actions of Brussels on this issue.
“This is an important development, this is what we will discuss today. It concerns what impact it will have, whether it will have any positive effect on the defense of Ukraine. But at the same time, we must be very aware of how this situation is developing, we must coordinate our actions very closely with America,” the head of the foreign policy department of the island state emphasized.
