Sandu scores 55.04% after processing 98.92% of the protocols.

The current President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, who is supported by the pro-Western Action and Solidarity party, is leading in the second round of elections for the head of the republic with 55.04% of the votes, while the ex-prosecutor general, dismissed by the Sandu regime, candidate from the opposition Party of Socialists, Alexander Stoianoglo, has 44.96 %,  the Central Election Commission reports after processing 98.92% of protocols from polling stations.

At the same time, Stoianoglo, after processing 100 percent of the protocols from polling stations within the country, wins on the territory of the republic itself, gaining 51.19%, Sandu has 48.81 percent.

The majority of residents of the north and south of Moldova voted for the former prosecutor general, dismissed by the Sandu regime, while the center voted mainly for the current president. In particular, Stoianoglo was supported by residents of the country’s second largest city Balti, while the majority (57.35 percent) of residents of the capital Chisinau voted for Sandu.

The former prosecutor general is also in the lead in his homeland of Gagauzia with an absolute advantage: after counting 85.29 percent of the protocols in the autonomy, he receives 95.85 percent of the votes, while his rival has only 4.15 percent.


At polling stations in Transnistria, he also scored 79.40 percent after processing 100 percent of the protocols, while Sandu was supported by only 20.60 percent.


At polling stations abroad, after processing 7.87 percent of the protocols, the incumbent president wins with 74.13 percent of the votes, while Stoianoglo has 25.87 percent.

The second round of presidential elections took place in Moldova on Sunday; the head of the republic is elected for a four-year term.

The country’s pro-Western President Maia Sandu and ex-Prosecutor General, a native of Gagauzia, candidate from the opposition Socialist Party, Alexander Stoianoglo, entered the second round of elections.


The current head of state adheres to the policy of European integration, sanctions against Russia and tightening control over the media under the pretext of combating disinformation. Stoyanoglo, in turn, is focused on maintaining pragmatic relations with Moscow, although he supports integration with Europe. He recognizes the importance of Russia for the Moldovan economy and sees it as an important partner with whom stable cooperation should be maintained in order to avoid the negative consequences of sanctions and crises.


In the first round of elections, Sandu received 42.45 percent of the vote, Stoianoglo – 25.98 percent. The candidate who receives the most voter support will win the second round.
