The United States and South Korea have reached a preliminary agreement on the principles of nuclear export and cooperation, according to a statement published on the website of the US Department of Energy.

“Consistent with the deep and long-standing relationship between the United States and the Republic of Korea, on November 1, both countries achieved an important milestone by advancing their civil nuclear cooperation by initialing a memorandum of understanding on principles related to nuclear exports and cooperation,” the document said.


It is clarified that the parties have strengthened control over the export of civilian nuclear technology.

“This memorandum will be finally reviewed in the capitals of the two countries,” the statement adds.
