Eight people died after a mine accident in China.

Eight people were killed and eight more were missing in an incident at a coal mine in China’s Henan province, the Pingdingshan city government said on Saturday.

“As of 1 a.m. on January 13, eight people were confirmed dead as a result of an incident at the Pingdingshan Tianan Coal Mining Company, and another eight people were missing,” a statement on the official account of the Pingdingshan city administration on the WeChat social network said.

It is noted that all other mine personnel managed to escape, and the search operation continues.

The statement does not indicate what kind of incident occurred at the mine, how many people were in the mine at the time, or what caused it.


The mine manager was detained by public security authorities. An investigation is underway.
