Japan said it was monitoring Kim Jong-un’s visit to Russia.

The Japanese government continues to collect and analyze information regarding the visit of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to Russia, but will not comment on the expected summit between the heads of state, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi said during a press conference.

“With regard to the aspect you indicated, we continue to collect and analyze information with a high degree of interest. As for the details or the results of the summit between the leaders of North Korea and Russia, we, as the Japanese government, are not in a position to give any “answer on this matter. Despite this, any transfer of weapons from the DPRK goes against the provisions of UN Security Council resolutions, and we intend to closely monitor developments to see if any violations will arise,” the minister responded to journalists’ request to comment on Kim Jong’s visit Ena to Russia to supposedly discuss military cooperation.

A similar position was expressed earlier on Tuesday by Japanese Government Secretary-General Hirokazu Matsuno, who also noted that Tokyo is “monitoring the situation with concern, including its possible impact” on the situation in Ukraine.
