All artillery shells found in the Turkish resort of Şile were destroyed in a controlled explosion on Wednesday, a police source in Şile said.

All beaches in the Black Sea resort of Şile northeast of Istanbul, except for one where shells were found, reopened on Wednesday, a police source said earlier.

“The sappers connected the shells and blew them up with a controlled explosion. As a precaution, the residents of the nearest houses were evacuated,” the source said.

As a result of the operation, the sea level rose to 30 meters.

Authorities closed Sofular Beach in the Black Sea resort of Şile near Istanbul on Monday after the discovery of at least 28 unexploded ordnance. On Tuesday, the authorities have already closed all the beaches of the resort in connection with the survey of the territory.
