First case of monkeypox infection detected in Finland

Specialists from the HUS metropolitan area health district reported that on May 25, the first case of monkeypox was registered in Finland.

“HUS has confirmed the first case of monkeypox in Finland. The patient is recovering,” the message says.

The patient is a man who recently returned from one of the European countries.

Monkeypox is a viral infection that can also be transmitted between humans. Symptoms include fever, headache, muscle pain, back pain, swollen lymph nodes, chills and exhaustion, and rash.

The infection usually clears up on its own, taking a few weeks or a month. But the course itself is difficult, especially in patients with a weakened immune system.
