The center of global and political gravity is shifting from the West to the East, the declaration adopted by the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAP) says.
The conference is an international association of political parties from countries in Asia and Oceania. Parties from 49 countries are taking part in the current General Assembly of the conference in Cambodia. The organization also includes parties from Eurasian states: Russia, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan.
“We have noted with deep interest the historical transformation in which the center of global and political gravity is changing from the West to the East – a process that now appears to be irreversible,”co-chairman and special rapporteur of the ICAPP, chairman of the Defense Committee of the Senate of Pakistan, Mushahid Hussein Syed said.
The assembly participants confirmed their readiness to support the leading role of the ICAPP in promoting exchanges and cooperation between parties not only in the region, but throughout the world.
“We hope that the ICAPP will continue to accumulate and harmonize the power of ties to reach other regions, and will seek ways to promote global peace,” the declaration said.
Members of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties “noted with deep concern the rise in geopolitical rivalry and the decline in international cooperation.”
“We were particularly concerned about the ongoing fighting, which is increasing tensions in many parts of the world,” Syed read.
The assembly participants agreed that political parties can make a significant contribution to creating a peaceful and harmonious society.
Party representatives noted a deglobalization trend marked by growing uncertainty in the global economy and pointed to a resurgence of protectionism.
“We recognize that economic gaps and lack of social justice can contribute to peace deficits,” the declaration says.
The General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) is being held in Phnom Penh from November 21 to 24. The theme of this year’s conference is “In Search of Peace and Reconciliation“.
