US President Donald Trump fired back on Sunday at Barack Obama. The predecessor swiped at how the current office has handled the epidemiological outbreak in the country.
Donald Trump wrote on his Twitter that Obama was ‘grossly incompetent’ president. “Look, he was an incompetent president,” Trump said of Obama.
After returning to the White House by Marine One, the US leader continued its answer to Obama and tagged predecessor’s office “one of the most corrupt and incompetent in US history,” claiming that both Obama and Biden are the reasons why he’s in the Oval Office. Not them.
As Xinhua reports, Trump’s comments came a day after Barack Obama shared a thinly veiled criticism of the totally unprofessional manner, in which Trump office has handled the COVID-19 outbreak.
“More than anything, this pandemic has fully, finally torn back the curtain on the idea that so many of the folks in charge know what they’re doing,” Obama said during a virtual commencement speech on Saturday. “A lot of them aren’t even pretending to be in charge.”
In a private call with supporters earlier this month, details of which were leaked to media outlets, the former president called the Trump office’s outbreak response “an absolute chaotic disaster.”
According to Democrat, such weak response is part of the reason why the response to this global crisis has been so spotty and ineffective. “It would have been bad even with the best of governments,” Obama said reportedly.
The current Office has bravely defended its handling of the public health disaster, while critics have pointed out that its leaders and officials ignored early warnings. As the opposition says, Trump’s administration was not only slow to act and not responding effectively but tried to politicize the situation to shift blames.
The trading of barbs also occurred against the backdrop that Trump, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, is set to be challenged by Biden, the presumptive Democratic candidate, in November presidential race. Obama has thrown support behind Biden for the White House.
As of Monday, more than 36m Americans have filed for unemployment since the start of the pandemic. In addition, 89,562 people have died in the US, which now counts 1.49m infections, according to Johns Hopkins University.
