Johnny Depp ‘launches $50 million defamation action’ against Amber Heard

Johnny Depp’s lawyer team launches $50 million defamation action against actor’s former wife, The Telegraph reported.

Amber Heard’s article for the Washington Post made Johnny Depp angry, the actor has found such Heard’s confession is unacceptable, baseless and false. “I spoke up against sexual violence – and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change,” wrote the 32-year-old Ms Heard in her article last December. The actress added she had received death threats and lost out on work after accusing ex-spouse of domestic abuse.

‘The op-ed’s clear implication that Mr Depp is a domestic abuser is categorically and demonstrably false,’ Mr Depp’s lawsuit reads and adds that, in fact, Ms Heard is not a victim of domestic abuse, she is a perpetrator.

In his defamation claim, Johnny Depp is said to accuse Heard of making “false allegations” against him to “advance her career”. Really, the scandal and divorce made Amber extremely popular person in Hollywood, boosted her career. The actor also argued the publication of the Washington Post article led to him being dropped from his lucrative role in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films, while Amber Heard became a “darling of the #MeToo movement” and was “hired by L’Oreal Paris as its global spokesperson”.

Responding to the 55-year-old actor’s claim, the lawyer team of Ms Heard noted that Depp’s frivolous action is just the latest of his repeated efforts to silence the former wife. “She will not be silenced,” they promised in the interview to People.
