The researchers proved that Tutankhamun’s tomb doesn’t contain any hidden rooms, The Telegraph reported. Italian archaeologists’ study showed the ancient tomb did not contain any hidden, manmade blocking walls, as was earlier suspected.
The archaeologists from the University of Turin, Italy have had conducted extensive studies with ground-penetrating radar, the results of which surprised the scientific community. Radar showed no hidden rooms in the tomb, confirmed Mostafa Waziri, the secretary general of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities.
In 2015, a British Egyptologist Nicholas Reeves proposed that Queen Nefertiti’s tomb could be concealed behind wall paintings in the boy king’s burial chamber. The three-year-long study showed his theory was false, a radar scans give conclusive evidence there are no hidden rooms.
According to Dr Francesco Porcelli, head of the Italian research team, Nefertiti’s remains have never been discovered, but she has been the object of much speculation. A 3,000-year-old sculpture of the queen, immaculately preserved, has made her one of the most recognisable women of ancient Egypt.
“It is maybe a little bit disappointing that there is nothing behind the walls of Tutankhamun’s tomb, but I think on the other hand that this is good science,”
said Dr Porcelli and added his team had analysed three different sets of radar data and cross-checked the results, to eliminate “complexity in the data” which affected previous scan results.
Egypt’s Antiquities Minister, Khaled al-Anani, said the authorities in the country accepted the results.
