Donald Trump’s campaign led him to the Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio, on Monday night. As pretty much expected, things didn’t went as smooth as it would be normal, with a few rally protesters being drag out at Trump’s request, says NY Times.
Trump, accused of racism
Between Trump’s fans there were seven students from Columbus Alternative High School that came to get extra credit for a history class, claims the same source. At first, it all started out soft, with about 10 000 people gathering to cheer for the Republican candidate. They even ignored a protester who held a sign that said “Hitler Trump for President” and who sarcastically shouted “Vote racism again!”.
When Trump’s advance team seated three black people with the Trump fans behind the stage, the students and the supporters around them sang “Skyfall” by Adele. After that, it came down to “Hey Jude”, but Trump’s supporters reacted immediately, lifting “The Silent Majority Stands With Trump” signs. A couple of college students joined in to sign along with the high school ones. As the songs began to repeat, the crowd grew restless, chanting “Trump, Trump, Trump” over the aria “Nessun Dorma”. When “Hey Jude” came on again, they booed, according to NY Times.
The Paris attacks were once again mentioned
Donald Trump arrived half an hour later than expected and was guarded by a line of Secret Service agents as he entered the stage. He obvious couldn’t skip the Paris attacks episode in his speech and he even spoke about the waterboarding interogation method, a practice that Obama administration consider more a torture process than an interogation method. “If it doesn’t work, they deserve it anyway.”, said Trump, considering that not every person has the right to live.
Things really escalated when Trump began talking about surveillance of refugees. That was the moment when the two college students began to shout out that “Hating Muslims helps ISIS.” The seven highschool students soon joined. Seeing what is happening, Trump reacted in his own manner, kicking out the rally protesters. “Yeah, you can get ’em the hell out.”, said the Republican candidate. His fans were so happy that you could have sweared that Trump just won the presidency race.
No trump rally without an incident
At recent Trump rallies, supporters have spit in participants’ faces, tackled demonstrators in Miami, and shoved and punched a Black Lives Matter activist in Alabama, confirms NY Times. Trump’s reaction? “Maybe he should have been roughed up”, stated the businessman, not impressed by all those rally protesters. “Isn’t a Trump rally much more exciting than these other ones?” Trump asked as the police escorting out a protester shouting “Trump’s a racist” from a rally in Worcester, Mass., last week. “That kind of stuff only adds to the excitement.”, said Trump, quoted by the same source.
Donald Trump leads in Republican polls, so it’s clearly that his fan base is pretty big, but surely the incidents in Ohio won’t be the last ones, and probably we’ll see more and more rally protesters as his campaign advances through.
