The metal detectors from outside a holy site in East Jerusalem are too obtrusive surveillance, so Israel has removed them.
Israel earlier insisted that the metal detectors were necessary to prevent weapons being smuggled in the territory of the holy site in Jerusalem. However Muslim leaders have called on worshippers to continue boycotting the sacred compound for now. There were deadly clashes after the metal detectors were set up, which Palestinians saw as an Israeli attempt to assert control over the site.
After the fatality on July 14 when two Israeli policemen were killed by Israeli-Arab gunmen, police started an investigation, that revealed the attackers had hidden their weapons on the hilltop site known to Jews as the Temple Mount and Muslims as Haram al-Sharif.

Prime minister said the Israeli security bodies had recommended replacing the metal detectors, the new ones will use more advanced technologies to detect the metallic items including the guns.
The improved measures and technologies will cost $28 million, would be put in place over the next six months. Until then, extra police would be deployed around the site, added the office of Israeli prime minister.
