Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, during a meeting with the commander of the Ohio National Guard, Major General John Harris, asked for US support in protecting the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija and called for strengthening the strategic partnership between official Belgrade and Washington.

Major General Harris met with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Friday morning, then he will attend the largest review of the Serbian army at a military airfield near Belgrade.

“Constructive conversation with the commander of the Ohio National Guard… about the security situation in the region, relations between Serbia and the United States, as well as opportunities for further development of our bilateral military cooperation and cooperation in other areas,” Vucic wrote on social networks after the closed-door meeting.

He said he expressed his “concerns about the increasingly dire security situation for Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija” to Harris, asking for “stronger U.S. support” in protecting Serbs and ensuring their rights.

“I noted that our country is committed to strengthening overall bilateral relations with the United States, especially in economic and industrial terms, with the aim of establishing a strategic partnership,” the Serbian leader added.

Harris met Thursday with Serbian Defense Minister Bratislav Gasic, who said Belgrade is committed to developing relations with the United States in all areas and noted the importance of cooperation with the Ohio National Guard for 18 years. The American general then held a meeting with the Chief of the Serbian General Staff, General Milan Mojsilovic. At the invitation of General Mojsilović, he will attend the demonstration of the capabilities of the Serbian Army “Zastava 2024” at the military airfield “Colonel-Pilot Milenko Pavlović” in Batajnica.
