Unknown people have committed criminal acts against the diplomatic missions of Italy and their employees abroad, the Italian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

The note from the Foreign Ministry says that on Friday evening, a window was broken at the Italian Consulate General in Barcelona and the wall in front of the building was soiled. On the same day, a car with the diplomatic plates of an employee of the Italian embassy was set on fire in Berlin. In both cases, people were not injured. The local police forces carried out the necessary investigative steps.

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani was immediately informed about the incident. He personally contacted the embassy in Berlin and the consulate general in Barcelona to express solidarity and asked to clarify “the dynamics of these criminal actions” as soon as possible. The minister also instructed “immediately to begin procedures for checking and strengthening diplomatic missions and their personnel,” the note says.
