Trump ordered to stop issuing one-cent coins

US President Donald Trump said he had instructed US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to stop issuing one-cent coins (pennies) in the country due to the high cost of their production.

“For too long, the United States has been minting pennies that literally cost us more than 2 cents. It’s so wasteful! I have instructed the US Treasury Secretary to stop producing new pennies. Let’s cut these expenses out of the budget of our great country, even one penny at a time,” Trump wrote on his page on the Truth Social network.

One of the reasons for the rise in the cost of coin production is the increase in the cost of metals.

“Giving up pennies can benefit businesses, as it will save time for sellers and cashiers,” experts say.
