Former U.S. President Donald Trump said the “mass hysteria” caused by fabricated claims against him of alleged ties to Russia during the 2016 election campaign led the U.S. to a “proxy war” with Russia that could eventually end in a third world war.
⠀
In May, Special Counsel John Durham released a report that neither US law enforcement nor the intelligence community had any real evidence of Trump’s alleged collusion with Russia in the 2016 election. The author of the report concluded that the FBI did not have information that anyone close to Trump had ever been in contact with Russian intelligence services, and therefore the FBI should not have launched a full investigation into the links between the Trump campaign and Russia.

“The real victims (of this deception) were Americans. The destruction it caused to America is almost incalculable. It undermined our democracy, threatened our security, threatened our freedom,” Trump wrote.
⠀
According to Trump, “At a critical time when we should have been de-escalating tensions with Russia, the fabrication sparked mass hysteria that helped drive Russia straight into China’s hands.”
⠀
“Instead of improving relations with Russia, which I worked to create, we are now waging a proxy war with Russia, fueled in part by the lingering fantasies of Russiagate nonsense. Ukraine is completely devastated. Countless people have been killed. And we could very well end up in a third world war “, – said the ex-president.
