The White House expressed hope for preventing a shutdown.

The head of the White House Office of Management and Budget, Shalanda Young, said she sees a chance that Congress will agree on a budget and prevent a shutdown.

“I’m still hopeful, I’m still optimistic – we have a day and a half to do what we need to do to get them (the congressmen) to agree to the deal that the US Senate has offered them. There’s still a chance,” she said at a briefing for the media.

If Congress does not pass a budget in one form or another by October 1, then a shutdown will occur in the United States – a suspension of the activities of the federal government due to lack of money.

Both chambers have prepared their own versions of a short-term budget, designed to prevent a shutdown and buy time to continue negotiations on a full budget for the 2024 fiscal year. The White House welcomed the Senate bill and vowed to veto the version drafted by the House Republican majority.
