The West cannot impose its will on Iran through sanctions, Tehran said.

The West cannot impose its will on Iran through sanctions, Tehran said.

Sanctions are a failed tool, Western countries cannot use them to impose their will on Iran, Tehran is open to dialogue, but dialogue should be based on mutual respect, and not on threats and pressure, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said.

On Tuesday, Germany, Great Britain and France in a joint statement threatened Iran with new sanctions, including the cancellation of bilateral air services agreements, due to Tehran’s alleged supply of ballistic missiles to the Russian Federation. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said these allegations were false.

“Western countries should know, and it’s surprising that they don’t already know, that sanctions are a failed tool, and they cannot impose their will on Iran with sanctions, both in the nuclear sphere and in other issues,” the minister said.

The head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry expressed surprise that the West still hopes for the “failed experience of sanctions” and applies it. He recommended that Western countries “change their ways.”

“Although we have always been open to dialogue, we have never renounced constructive discussions to achieve a common understanding of issues that cause controversy, and we are ready (to participate in dialogue), but dialogue should be built on mutual respect, and not on threats and pressure,” – Araghchi stated.

The American TV channel CNN, citing sources, claimed on September 6 that Iran allegedly transferred short-range ballistic missiles to the Russian Federation for use in Ukraine. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani denied statements by American media about Tehran supplying weapons to Russia.

As an official representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry previously stated, any attempt to link bilateral cooperation between Moscow and Tehran with the conflict in Ukraine is carried out in order to justify the West’s continued supply of weapons to Kyiv.
