The US House of Representatives, after returning from the Christmas and New Year’s holidays in January, is preparing to vote on a resolution charging the son of US President Hunter Biden with contempt of Congress, according to statements from the Judiciary and Oversight Committees.

“Hunter Biden blatantly ignored two legal subpoenas by failing to appear at his December deposition. Next week, we will consider a resolution and accompanying report to hold him accountable for contempt of Congress in violation of federal law,” the oversight committee said in a statement.

A committee meeting on this issue is scheduled for January 10. In a statement, the Judiciary Committee, in turn, announced plans to meet also on January 10 to prepare a document recommending that the House of Representatives bring the son of the American leader to justice.

In December, the heads of the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees, Jim Jordan and James Comer, announced their intention to initiate proceedings to bring charges of contempt of Congress against Hunter Biden after he ignored the demands of members of the House to appear in closed testimony before Congress in the case of the business dealings of his family and Joe Biden’s involvement in them.

Earlier, the son of the American leader appeared at the Capitol, where he was summoned to testify in the case of impeachment of the head of state. Despite warnings that he could be found guilty of contempt of Congress, Hunter Biden made it clear in a conversation with reporters that he intends to testify only in open hearings, and not behind closed doors, as lawmakers have demanded.
