The US has called for the impeachment of the head of the Department of Homeland Security.

The House Homeland Security Committee on Wednesday voted to impeach Department of Homeland Security chief Alejandro Mayorkas, Committee Chairman Republican Mark Greene said.

Earlier, Fox News reported that Republicans in the US House of Representatives presented two justifications for the impeachment of the head of the Department of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, who is accused of “deliberately and systematically refusing to obey the law” and undermining public trust.”

“Mayorkas has knowingly and systematically refused to implement laws passed by Congress and violated the trust of Congress and the American people. The results have been disastrous and endangered the lives and economic fortunes of all Americans,”  Republican Rep. Mark Greene said.

At the end of November 2023, member of the House of Representatives of the American Congress Marjorie Taylor Greene reintroduced for consideration by legislators the initiative to impeach Mayorkas for failing to ensure the security of the US borders. As Greene said in testimony on the House floor at the time, Mayorkas, in violation of his constitutional duty, “allowed the invasion of approximately 10 million illegal aliens” and “willfully” abdicated his responsibility to protect the US border.

If impeachment is approved by the full House of Representatives and the US Senate, Mayorkas will become the first US minister in almost 150 years to be removed from office in this way. In 1876, Secretary of War William Belknap was impeached.
