The US Green Party has approved an anti-war activist as a presidential candidate.

The American Green Party has officially approved doctor Jill Stein, known for her advocacy of stopping arms supplies to Ukraine and Israel, as its candidate for the US presidential election.

A black Muslim, Butch Ware, an associate professor of history at the University of California at Santa Barbara, has become the vice-presidential candidate, according to the results of the party’s national convention, which was broadcast online.

Stein, a Chicago native and Harvard graduate, is 73 years old. The presidential campaign is no stranger to her: She ran for the country’s highest office on the Green Party ticket in 2012 and 2016. Prior to this, the politician twice tried to become governor of Massachusetts, where she became an activist in the late 1990s, declaring that people’s health directly depends on their environment. Stein’s prominent campaigns in recent years have included speaking out in defense of WikiLeaks chairman and founder Julian Assange.

As part of his election agenda, Stein proposes closing most US military bases abroad, stopping arms sales, lifting economic sanctions that harm civilians, including from Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, and withdrawing US troops from Iraq and Syria.

The US presidential elections will take place on November 5th. Former President Donald Trump has been officially nominated by the Republican Party for the post of head of state. Incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris is running for the Democrats.
