The US denies that the CIA has plans to kill Maduro.

The United States categorically denies that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has plans to assassinate Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, CNN reported on Sunday, citing a State Department official.

The day before, Vice President and Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Venezuela Diosdado Cabello announced the detention of two Spanish and one American citizens in the republic. According to Cabello, they planned the assassination of the mayor of the city of Upata, and also intended, in coordination with the intelligence services of the United States and Spain, to deliver a group of mercenaries from France and Eastern Europe to Venezuela with the aim of killing Maduro and other representatives of the Venezuelan leadership.

According to CNN, a total of six foreigners were arrested, including, presumably, an American Marine.

According to CNN’s interlocutor, allegations that the CIA plans to kill Maduro are “categorically false.”

The State Department spokesman added that the United States “will continue to support a democratic resolution to the political crisis in Venezuela.”
