The US Congress spoke about the consequences of the planned deportation of migrants.

The mass deportation of illegal migrants, planned by Donald Trump, who won the US presidential election, could lead to a decline in economic growth similar to the Great Depression, according to a report by Democratic representatives from the Joint Committee on the Economy of the US Congress.

“The incoming Trump administration plans to carry out mass deportations that will destroy entire communities and lead to severe economic decline… According to the calculations of the (non-profit research organization) American Immigration Council, prolonged deportations – if you deport one million people a year until there are no more illegal residents population – could lead to a decline in GDP of 4.2% to 6.8%… For comparison, the economic decline during the Great Depression was 4.3%,” the report says.

Other studies make similar predictions. According to a study by the Petersen Institute for Global Economics cited in the committee’s report, if more than 8 million illegal migrants were expelled from the country, by 2028 employment would decline by 7% and GDP by 7.4%. This is equivalent to the fact that during the entire four years of Trump’s presidency the US economy will stand still without any growth.

In addition, according to the report, mass deportations could increase the inflation rate by 9.8% by 2028, as well as deprive the agricultural and construction industries of a significant part of the workforce: up to 225 thousand and 1.5 million people, respectively.

During the election campaign, US Vice Presidential candidate from the Republican Party James David (JD) Vance said that there are about 20 million illegal migrants in the country illegally, while he himself proposes to start deporting them from 1 million people.
