The US Congress issued a statement after Assange was released from prison.

Republican U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene welcomed reports of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange’s release and said he had been imprisoned for years for his journalism.

“Amazing news! Julian Assange is going to be released after many years of imprisonment for such a crime as journalism. Thank God for the release of Julian!!,” the congresswoman wrote on her page on the social network X.

Assange was released from a British prison after agreeing with US prosecutors to accept a partial guilty plea in exchange for the five years he had already spent behind bars.

Assange gained worldwide fame by founding the website WikiLeaks, where hundreds of thousands of confidential materials were published, including, for example, video footage of the death of Iraqi civilians as a result of an attack by an American helicopter in Baghdad.
