The United States has imposed sanctions on five individuals and seven entities for assisting Iran in the purchase of components necessary for the production of missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles, the US Treasury said in a statement released on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the sanctions included companies from Iran, China and Hong Kong. They are credited with purchasing “various components that are key resources for Iran’s ballistic missile and UAV program.

“Iran’s reckless proliferation of its ballistic missiles and UAVs threatens further instability and endangers the lives of civilians both in the region and around the world,” Brian Nelson, Deputy Secretary of the Treasury for Counterterrorism and Financial Intelligence, commented on the decision, as quoted by in the statement.

The US will continue to impose restrictions on individuals and companies that «encourage Iran’s ability to produce ‘these lethal weapons,» he said.
