The UN Secretary General called for a ceasefire in Karabakh.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres called for an immediate ceasefire in Karabakh and implementation of the 2020 agreements, according to a commentary by his official representative Stephane Dujarric.

“The Secretary-General is extremely concerned about the use of military force in the region and reports of casualties, including among civilians,” Dujarric said.

He said the Secretary-General “calls in the strongest terms for an immediate cessation of hostilities, de-escalation and stricter adherence to the 2020 ceasefire and the principles of international humanitarian law.”

He remains concerned about the humanitarian situation on the ground and reiterates his call for urgent steps to facilitate full access for humanitarian organizations to people in need, he said. It also calls on the parties to refocus efforts to build confidence and ensure long-term peace in the region.
