The Turkish party said that the US has ruined the good relations between Ankara and Damascus.

The United States became the country that ruined the extremely good relations between Turkey and Syria, and now the two countries have no choice but to normalize. This opinion was expressed by the deputy chairman of the Turkish Vatan party, Hakan Topkurulu.

“Turkey must cooperate with Syria, Iraq, Iran and Russia to get rid of the risk of a split in Syria, which is threatened from the Atlantic. This is also necessary to eliminate the problem of the PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party, People’s Defense Forces, recognized as terrorist in Turkey Therefore, the normalization of relations between Ankara and Damascus must begin as early as possible. The parties simply have no other choice,” the politician noted.

He pointed out that Washington’s policies led to a severance of ties between Ankara and Damascus.

“It was the United States that spoiled the extremely good relations between Turkey and Syria. But any such difficulties can be leveled out by actions based on current realities, which can change these imposed conditions,” he said.

Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that Ankara has been maintaining indirect contacts with Damascus in various formats for some time and wants Damascus to finally resolve its internal problems. He noted that “in fact, since 2017, after the Astana format agreements, there has been a freeze in the military conflict between the Syrian regime and the opposition,” and in this situation, “it is necessary to take steps to permanently resolve certain issues,” of which Turkey is mainly concerned about refugees and the fight against terrorism. He also indicated that the republic is ready for a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
