Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolaku was re-elected president of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) at the congress and nominated as its candidate for president of the country.

Ciolaku said Tuesday that he intends to run for the presidency of the country and made this decision after consulting with Romanians, his family and party colleagues.

“Delegates to the regular congress of the SDP on Saturday re-elected Marcel Ciolaka as president of the Social Democratic Party by secret electronic vote and approved his candidacy for the party in the presidential elections,” Romanian media reports.

It is noted that 2,257 congress delegates voted for the approval of Colaku as the presidential candidate from the SDP.

Citizens of Romania elect a president for five years. The presidential elections will take place on November 24.
