The President of Slovakia has announced that she will not go to the next elections.

The current head of Slovakia, Zuzana Caputova, has announced that she will not take part in the next presidential election.

“I believe that during my last year in this position, we will do a lot of good things with the team for Slovakia,” Čaputova said on Tuesday, her statement was broadcast by Slovak television.


49-year-old Chaputova won the presidential elections in Slovakia in March 2019, she became the first woman president in the history of the country. The head of state in Slovakia is elected for five years, thus Čaputova’s term of office expires in 2024.


In mid-May, it became known that the security of Chaputova and her family members was strengthened due to threats that come to the head of state.

According to some reports, not only the president, but also her two daughters were threatened, Chaputova also received cartridges in envelopes, reports of planted bombs and letters full of anti-Semitism. It was reported that the police were investigating four cases of threats, in some of them Chaputova was interrogated as a victim, but their details were not disclosed.
