The Polish opposition is preparing a major protest in Warsaw, the leader of the Law and Justice (PiS) party, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, said speaking to voters on Saturday.
⠀
“We have planned a big march in Warsaw for May 18,” Kaczynski said.
⠀
He explained that the purpose of the march would be an attempt to force the parliamentary majority to accept the Sejm resolution on abandoning the climate plans of the European Union (the so-called “Green Deal”) and on the embargo on the import of agricultural products from Ukraine.
⠀
Kaczynski stressed that the march will take place even if the Sejm resolution is adopted by the time it takes place.
⠀
On Saturday, a meeting between representatives of protesting farmers and Prime Minister Donald Tusk ended in Warsaw. Following its results, farmers stated that they had not received specific proposals and would continue their protests.
⠀
Farmer protests have been taking place in Poland since the beginning of February. The main demands of the protesters are to stop the import of agricultural products from Ukraine to Poland and abandon the environmental plans of the European Union (the so-called “Green Deal”), which involves achieving zero emissions into the atmosphere by 2050.
