Jack Teixeira, a defendant in the Pentagon documents leak case, pleaded guilty and agreed to a prison term of 16 years, according to a court document.
⠀
“I enter into this agreement freely and voluntarily, and also because I am actually guilty of committing crimes,” the pre-trial agreement that Teixeira signed says.
⠀
As noted in the document, Teixeira “understands and agrees” that the prosecutor will ask the court to send him to prison for 200 months (a little more than 16.5 years).
⠀
Teixeira, a member of the US Air National Guard, was detained in connection with the leak of documents on April 13. He began posting classified documents on a Discord server around February 2022. Teixeira allegedly found the conflict in Ukraine “depressing” and thought that Moscow and Kyiv “should have more in common than what divides them.”
