The number of victims of floods in Morocco has reached 18 people.

The number of flood victims in Morocco has risen to 18 people, including three foreign citizens, while four more are missing, the country’s Interior Ministry reported on Monday.

Earlier, 11 dead and nine missing were reported in the provinces of Tata, Tiznit and Rashidiya.

“As of Monday evening, 18 people have been confirmed dead, four more are listed as missing… Their search continues,” the statement said.

According to the release, among the dead were citizens of Canada, Peru and Spain.


According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, heavy rains and floods led to the complete or partial collapse of more than 80 residential buildings and eight technical facilities; electricity and water supply lines and telephone lines were also damaged.


The rainfall over the past two days is about half of the amount of rainfall that falls in the region throughout the year.


On Saturday, Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology said very strong thunderstorms, accompanied by hail and gusts of wind, were expected in several areas in different parts. According to the release, the dead included citizens of Canada, Peru and Spain.
