More than half of the voters in Moldova voted in a referendum for the republic to join the EU, according to data from the Central Election Commission after processing 98.38% of the protocols.

As specified, this initiative is supported by 732,780 people (50.07%). 730,664 residents of the country, or 49.93%, were against it.

In Moldova, presidential elections were held on October 20, the head of the republic was elected for four years. Also on this day, a referendum took place, in which citizens had to answer the question: “Do you support changing the Constitution in order for the Republic of Moldova to join the European Union?” Both events were recognized as taking place, since the turnout for each of them exceeded the required limit of 33.3%.

Directly in Transnistria, where all protocols were counted, 62.56% of voters were against European integration, and 37.44% were in favor. In the Gagauz autonomy within Moldova – after processing all the ballots – 94.84% of people voted against the integration of the republic into the EU, only 5.16% supported it.

In turn, in the elections of the head of state, according to the CEC data after processing 98.29% of the protocols, the current President Maia Sandu is in the lead. She gets 41.92% of the votes.
