The Nigerian army was put on full alert.

The Nigerian army was put on full alert.

The Nigerian authorities put the army on full alert because of the situation in neighboring Niger.

“Mobilization has not started yet, but orders have been placed on full alert for a possible deployment to Niger,” the officer of Nigerian armed forces said.

This morning, a delegation from the Economic Community of West Africa (ECOWAS) left Niger without meeting either the coup leader General Abdurrahman Tchiani or the ousted President Mohamed Bazum.

As emphasized in ECOWAS, military intervention in the situation in Niger will be the last option under consideration, but it needs to be prepared.

The rebels, in turn, declared that they would immediately respond to any aggression.
