The Lebanese Prime Minister condemned the attack on UN peacekeepers in the south of the country

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned the attack on French soldiers from the United Nations Interim Force in Southern Lebanon (UNIFIL) and ordered the perpetrators to be brought to justice.

On Saturday, a conflict broke out in the Ghandouria settlement in southern Lebanon between local residents and a patrol of UN peacekeepers. The reasons for the conflict have not been disclosed.

“I strongly condemn the attack carried out today on the soldiers of the French contingent as part of the UNIFIL. I have given strict instructions to immediately conduct an investigation to clarify the circumstances of this attack and bring those responsible to justice,” he wrote on his social network page.

The Prime minister noted that such actions damage Lebanon’s relations with friendly countries that support the republic.
