The decision of a number of countries that did not sign the final statement of the conference on Ukraine in Switzerland was influenced by the reluctance to disrupt relations with the Russian Federation, Italian Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani said.

“We are aware that such global players as India, South Africa, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Mexico and Colombia, despite participating in the summit on Ukraine in Switzerland, did not sign the final document. The position of these countries was certainly influenced by the desire to maintain a neutral position so as not to damage political and economic relations with Russia, and, above all, to have free hands ahead of future negotiations,” he said at a joint meeting of the international affairs commissions of both houses of the Italian parliament.
⠀
Tajani also stated the need to “promote a narrative that supports the Ukrainian position and attracts the main countries that can engage in dialogue with Moscow.”

The conference in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, took place on June 15-16. More than 90 countries, half of which are from Europe, as well as eight organizations have confirmed their participation in the event. At the same time, the final communiqué was not signed by Armenia, Bahrain, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Libya, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates. Later, Iraqi Jordan withdrew its signatures from the communiqué.
