The Israeli military fired on a UN peacekeeper patrol in Lebanon.

The Israeli army attacked fighters of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), the peacekeeping contingent said on the social network X.

“Today at around 12 noon, a UNIFIL patrol came under fire from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in the vicinity of Aytarun in southern Lebanon,” the statement said.

As noted, none of the peacekeepers were injured. The vehicle was damaged. The UN forces condemned the actions of the Israeli military and pointed out the responsibility of the parties to protect the peacekeepers.

The situation in Southern Lebanon worsened after the start of IDF military operations in the Gaza Strip. This was preceded by an attack by the Palestinian Hamas movement on southern Israel. The IDF and Lebanese Hezbollah fighters fire at each other’s positions in border areas.

The Lebanese movement forces mainly attack Israel with anti-tank missiles, which does not lead to large-scale destruction or large casualties among the population. For every salvo from Lebanon, the IDF fires back at Hezbollah positions. Israeli settlements along the border with Lebanon were evacuated to a safe distance in case the situation worsened.
