The Israel Defense Forces attacked Houthi targets near the port city of Hodeidah in western Yemen, the IDF Telegram channel reported.
⠀
“Some time ago, fighter jets carried out strikes on Houthi military installations <…> near the port of Hodeidah in Yemen in response to hundreds of attacks on Israel in recent months,” the post says.
⠀
After the attack, two people were killed and three more were injured.
⠀
Jewish Foreign Minister Israel Katz called the Israeli Air Force operation a heavy blow to the terrorist branch of Iran, which “supports, trains and finances the Houthi terrorist organization.”
⠀
Another agency source reported the defeat of Ansar Allah positions in Hodeidah earlier on Saturday, noting that this was done by American and British fighters. At the same time, Houthi spokesman Mohammed Abdessalam said that Israel attacked oil storage facilities and a power plant.
⠀
Following the escalation of the Middle East conflict, the Ansar Allah movement began to attack ships associated with Israel, which caused a sharp reduction in maritime traffic through the Suez Canal.
⠀
The Houthis explain their actions as helping the Palestinians and say they are not interfering with freedom of navigation in the region. Arab and Muslim countries have repeatedly warned the United States that unconditional support for Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip will lead to the spread of the conflict throughout the region.
⠀
The United States and Great Britain, for their part, began striking Houthi targets in mid-January. A member of the highest political council of the Ansar Allah movement, Muhammad Ali al-Houthi, called these attacks a terrorist barbarity, deliberate and unjustified aggression.
